The Volcano Direct Hiking Adventure provides an immersive experience exploring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This adventure includes roundtrip transportation from Kailua-Kona, guided by an experienced interpretive naturalist who shares insights into the park’s geology, history, and culture.

Tour Highlights and Itinerary

The approximately 10-hour journey begins at 7:30 AM from Kona headquarters, traveling via Saddle Road in a comfortable Mercedes Sprinter van. Arrival at the park occurs around 10:00 to 10:30 AM, where guests embark on a hike up to 3 miles along the best trail selected for the day. The hike traverses ancient lava fields and active volcanic landscapes, including sights such as the rim of Halemaumau Crater and steam vents.

A fresh picnic deli-style lunch is provided to refuel during the afternoon, accompanied by snacks and chilled beverages. The return trip departs at 2:30 PM, arriving back in Kona between 5:00 and 5:30 PM.

Included Gear and Amenities

All necessary gear is supplied, including trekking poles, day packs, raingear, bug repellent, and sunscreen. The tour is suitable for guests aged 6 and older and accommodates groups up to 12 people. Gratuity is not included and is at your discretion.

Booking and Cancellation Policy

Guests receive a full refund if cancellation occurs at least 24 hours before the adventure. Cancellations within 24 hours or no-shows are charged the full tour amount. Meeting points include Hawaii Forest & Trail locations at Queens’ Marketplace, The Shops at Mauna Lani, and Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo.
