The Volcano After Dark Tour is a 9 to 10-hour guided experience that showcases the Big Island’s natural wonders and cultural sites after dark. Wild Hawaii Tours leads guests through waterfalls, beaches, rainforests, and volcanic landscapes.
The day begins at Rainbow Falls, where cascading water flows over a lava cave surrounded by lush jungle. Guests enjoy free time in downtown Hilo for shopping and exploring the town’s historic charm. The tour continues to Richardson Ocean Park, a black sand beach known for volcanic shoreline and frequent sea turtle sightings.
Next, the tour visits Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Guests explore the Thurston Lava Tube and ancient rainforest while learning about Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of creation. If conditions permit, the tour includes viewing the glowing summit crater after sunset, offering a rare glimpse of active volcanic energy.
As night falls, the tour drives along Saddle Road with stops for stargazing under some of the clearest skies in the world, framed by Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
Participants receive cold water, sodas, snacks, rain jackets, umbrellas, entrance fees to parks, a narrated guide, and binoculars. The tour has a 24-hour cancellation policy and accommodates groups up to 28 people, suitable for ages 1 to 99.
