The AIDA freediving instructor course is an intensive 8-10 day program designed to prepare experienced freedivers to teach freediving safely and effectively. Located in Waikiki, Hawaii, the course includes 4-5 days of boat shuttle sessions for open water training.
This performance-based program covers the AIDA education system, instructional techniques, and professional responsibilities. Training includes classroom instruction, pool sessions, and open water practice. Candidates learn risk management, student supervision, and freediving theory.
Participants must demonstrate high-level freediving skills, safety techniques, and teaching ability. The course includes written, practical, and teaching evaluations, as well as a final oral presentation and written paper.
The curriculum also addresses legal responsibilities, marketing, and professional conduct for freediving instructors. Depth and performance standards include open water dives (CWT 40-50m, FIM 40-50m, CNF 20m) and pool disciplines (DYN 90m, DNF 50m, STA 4-5 minutes). Rescue scenarios and stamina tests are part of the assessment. The course deposit is $500 with a total cost of $1500.
