Discover the dense rainforest of Hakalau Forest Reserve, home to some of the world’s rarest plants and animals. This private outing focuses on Hawaii’s endemic flora and fauna, ideal for birdwatchers and nature lovers.
Guests gain entry to a restricted-access National Wildlife Refuge and search for native and endangered birds including Amakihi, Apapane, Elepaio, Akepa, Akiapolaau, and Iiwi. Unique wildlife such as carnivorous caterpillars and happy-faced spiders may also be seen.
The tour includes deli-style lunch with assorted beverages and provides trekking poles, binoculars, day packs, and rain jackets. Meeting points include Hawaii Forest & Trail, Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, Kona Village, Queens’ Marketplace, and Waikoloa Plaza.
Guests should be prepared for uneven terrain and possible rough road conditions requiring 4WD vehicles.
