Join the Living Reef Lab Snorkel Experience
The Living Reef Lab Snorkel invites guests to engage in a hands-on marine science adventure along the Kohala Coast. Departing from Kawaihae Harbor (S Basin), guests check in at 7:40 AM and receive snorkel gear and a safety briefing before departing at 8:00 AM.
Coastal Cruise and Reef Exploration
During the coastal cruise, the crew educates guests about reef ecosystems, marine life, and the goals of the citizen science program. The first reef stop introduces participants to the reef lab where they use fish ID cards and observe reef species, behaviors, and coral health with crew guidance.
Data Discussion and Applied Exploration
After a surface interval with refreshments, guests discuss their observations before visiting a second reef to continue exploring and identifying marine life. This immersive experience allows guests to contribute to ongoing reef research and conservation efforts.
Media and Education
Complimentary photos and videos are captured throughout the tour, accompanied by continuous education about reef conservation. The tour returns to the harbor by 11:00 AM, leaving guests with a deeper understanding of Hawaii’s reefs and their role in protecting them.
