Join a cultural hike to Kīlauea, the most active volcano in the world, located in Mountain View, Hawaii. Learn about the volcano’s history, eruptions, the island’s formation, and Hawaiian deities including Madam Pele.

The hike leads to one of the best viewing locations at the volcano summit, a lookout where Madam Pele is said to reside. The trail is mostly flat and takes less than an hour roundtrip.

Tours are scheduled at sunrise or sunset when lava is not flowing, and at 10PM when lava is active. Participants receive head lamps and are advised to dress warmly due to the 4,000 ft elevation and chilly conditions. Closed-toe shoes or warm boots are recommended.

Along the hike, guides share moʻolelo (stories), cultural insights, and the history of the 2018 lava flow that impacted the area. Whether lava is visible or not, the steamy crater and views provide a breathtaking experience.
